College of Allied Health Sciences

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences is an integral element of the Kuwait University’s four-faculty Health Sciences Center that also houses the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy. The faculty was established in June 1982, with five departments, and offers 4-year Bachelor’s Degree program in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, Radiological Sciences and Health Information Administration. Since 2001, the Nursing program has been merged with the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.

The Faculty has 20 academic staff with additional 22 senior lecturers and lecturers, and 366 students registered in various allied programs. Each program requires a minimum number of contact hours, essential for attaining the requisite professional competence. In addition to lectures, the students get extensive hands-on experience both at the laboratory and in clinical rotations at the Ministry of Health for practical exposure. English is the language of instruction.

The curricular needs are periodically evaluated, and any major changes must go through the Faculty Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee for endorsement and subsequent approval by the University Scientific Affairs Committee.

The Allied health professionals form part of the health care team, headed by a medical doctor, and their professionalism and understanding of the care requirements make their role imperative in health care delivery system. The faculty will soon be venturing in the sphere of Master’s program, in addition to starting several diploma programs for meeting the continuing needs of the allied health professionals in Kuwait. The faculty also renders services and training courses to the Ministry of Health, and actively participates in research as well as workshops, seminars and conferences to keep pace with latest developments in the allied health sciences profession.

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences is currently located at Kuwait University campus in Shuwaikh, but will soon be moving to its new premises at Jabriya, in the newly constructed Health Sciences Center complex.
