Under the sponsorship and the presence of the Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Supreme President of the University, Dr. Modhi Al- Humoud, The College of Engineering and Petroleum has opened Wednesday 27th of January 2010 the 17th Engineering Design at the hall of the late Farouq Bargash in the College of Engineering and Petroleum in Khaldiya. And with the presence of Dr. Abdullah Al-Fuhaid, the University President, Dr. Taher Al-Sahaf, the Dean of College of Engineering and Petroleum, the Assistant Deans and the Directors of the Departments .
In this regard, Dr. Taher Al-Sahaf, the Dean of College of Engineering and Petroleum, said that the College Deanship, organizes this exhibition to encourage students to bring out and document their scientific accomplishments in recognition of their hard work and perseverance in their study. The College throws this gallery once at the end of each semester to show the graduation projects from all the scientific departments of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, pointing out that the number of the participants this year are 73 projects presented by 250 students.
Dr. Taher Al-Sahaf asserted that these projects are included in an obligatory course that all student must register in, so that they can learn the principles of the engineering design, and adding that the scientific theories that students study must be applied in such innovative projects. He also said that the exhibition has a constructive team work spirit as well as brining out the skills of research, presenting and displaying information and explaining it to the audience.
On his part, Dr. Mohamed Al-Failakawy, the Director of the Engineering Training and Graduates Center in the faculty, said that the main aim of the exhibition is applying the scientific studies in original and creative projects. Kuwait foundation for the advancement of science has preceded us in achieving this aim and has always sought to support technological and scientific developments. The most important thing that the foundation has provided is supporting the future engineer's ability to meet the future challenges through sponsoring inventors and providing the appropriate atmosphere and directing their scientific researches to serve this generous country. It is worth mentioning that this year; the foundation has also supported all the projects of the students of engineering and petroleum.
Dr. Mohamed Al-Failakaway, added that an engineer is the essential member in all institutions and authorities of society for his ability to determine the problems and find the appropriate solutions for them. Moreover, the Engineering Design Course is an obligatory course for all students where they apply the acquired theories during their study and turn them to practical projects which are beneficial to the Kuwaiti society in particular and the engineering community in general.
Arranging this ehibition is mainly to encourage students to bring out and document their scientific accomplishments in recognition of their hard work and perseverance in their study. Assuring that, many of the students projects obtained Patents and were adopted by some engineering companies to be applied in engineering exhibitions.
Dr. Modi Al-Humoud, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Dr. Abdullah Al-Fuhaid, the President of the University, have toured all the exhibition's sections and admired the student's accomplishments and different projects while they expressed their happiness and pride of these achievements and outstanding inventions in the field of engineering and petroleum.
