Head of Information and Technology Unit at College of Social Sciences - Kuwait University, Hayat Al-Yagout announced that the unit has developed a plan to redesign the interface of the College's website during the current academic year, adding that the unit is organizing a Techno – Social event in the next semester, there has been more focus on training activities and awareness-raising lectures as well as focusing on the deployment of video recordings of the college's activities on the college's website as to document these activities and promote them, in addition to a new version of "social Informatics" journal.
Al-Yagout indicated that upon the decision of the Dean of the College N.29 dated on December 7,2005, information and technology Unit was established in College of Social Sciences, which aims to propose software solutions and management for the development of electronic business in College of Social Sciences and the services that are provided an ongoing basis, as well as to design models and common generalizations in terms of computing artifacts in the college.
Al-Yagout also added that the one of the unit's objectives is to study and document computer applications for the college and its departments in addition to study requests and proposals of other sections relating to the establishment of new computer laboratories in coordination with agencies and laboratories at the college with regard to the functions of the Committee, and representing scientific departments of the college in technical and managing decisions with companies specialized in the field of computer technology, as well as representing the College in committees at the university's level to study and approve contracts for purchasing and maintaining the computers of the College and its departments.
Al-Yagout indicated that the unit is coordinating with the Center for Computer Services at the university regarding computer network of the college and its connection to the main network and functioning of the university, and the inventory of computers and other technical devices at the departments and work centers, following-up its maintenance and update.
Al-Yagout pointed out that the most important activities of the center is divided into two levels, service activities and developmental activities, all aim to achieve the slogan of "Technology in the service of society", indicating that service activities are the daily tasks performed by the Unit of the College to provide technical support for laboratories, classrooms and faculty and staff members and for the events organized by the College, as well as communication and dissemination of the College's announcements via the mailing list and plasma screens.
Al-Yagout explained that the developmental activities include the management of College's website, Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis, as the Unit handles some software business such as website design for the College, database programming, and other for the Office of field Training at the college in order to record data of the college's graduates, as well as the production of video documentaries on various occasions in the college, adding that the Unit performs multi-tasks and activities as to achieve the slogan of Unit: the technology in the service of society. The unit is holding "Techno - social," Forum each year and is publishes "social Informatics" an annual journal.
According to Al-Yagout , the Unit has a close cooperation with all work centers at College of Social Sciences for the services the unit provides to the college, particularly the Dean's office , the offices of the deans assistants and the Office of the Managing Director, for their role in supporting the Unit and their contribution to the turn the annual plan into reality.
Al-Yagout stated that there is a significant cooperation between the Unit and other bodies from outside the college such as Center for Information Systems ,Center for Distance Learning, University Press and Library administration, noting that the Unit annually invites various working agencies in the field of technology to participate in the exhibition's activities.
Given the small number of staff of the unit said Al-Yagout that the plan to develop the Centre is on the principle of engaging the outside community, through the use of lecturers providing workshops, or the involvement of students in the activities of the unit, and that the unit is seeking to increase the number of computer labs at the college to accommodate more students.
