The Admission and Registration Deanship at Kuwait University was established in the academic year 1985/6, in order to help in the development of the registration process in keeping with the increasing number of students, to perform long term studies concerning the admission policies and to meet the needs of the society and its development plans.

The Admission and Registration Deanship applies the admission policies, the transfer procedures and the registration process, and it follows up on the registered students' academic affairs from their acceptance till their graduation from the University. The deanship is considered the University apparatus responsible for applying the teaching system according to the charts, bases and regulations in effect at the University.

There are also many functions undertaken by other departments and sections that depend on the deanship as a main source for information and statistics they use as a yardstick in taking their decisions. The University Dean of Admission and Registration Affairs, together with the Assistant Dean and the Department Heads, supervise the Admission and Registration Deanship and manage its technical and administrative affairs.
